Moseley 12th Hole



On the playing front, Moseley Golf Club has achieved many honours, most notable of which are the achievements of Stanley and Michael Lunt, who between them captained England on five separate occasions.

Stanley Lunt was the English Amateur Champion in 1934, Captain of England in 1935, 1952 & 1953 and played for the England Team on many occasions.
He was also elected as President of the English Golf Union in 1960. Stanley remained a Moseley Member until his death in 1990.

Michael Lunt was British Amateur Champion in 1963, the English Amateur Champion in 1962 & 1966, played in the Walker Cup in 1959, 1961, 1963 & 1965 and represented both the British Isles and England on many occasions.

In the Autumn of 2006, he was appointed Captain of The Royal & Ancient Golf Club, St. Andrews. Michael remained a Moseley Member until his death in 2007.

In additional to the successes of the Lunt family, 5 other Moseley members have represented England, A.S. Newey, K.R. Frazier, D.M.G. Sutherland, P.D. Kelley & M.C. Reynard; 2 for Wales, I. Hughes & H.C. Squirrell and 1 for Scotland, W.M. Robb.

Hugh Squirrell was the Welsh Amateur Champion on five occasions, 1958, 1959, 1960, 1964 & 1965 and played for Wales consistently over a 20 year period.

In more recent times, current member Tony Jowle was British Youth Champion in 1959 and has represented the Midlands & Worcestershire County through 6 decades.

Roy Hobbis won the EGU Individual Members Championship in 1997 and has represented the Midlands & Worcestershire County through 7 decades.
He was elected President of the Worcestershire Union of Golf Clubs in 2000.

Mike Reynard was the runner-up in the British Amateur Championship in 1995 and also represented England, the Midlands and Worcestershire County throughout the 1980s and 1990s.

Moseley Golf Club members have always been successful in the Worcestershire County Championships, Gold Medal winners including Andrew Forrester, who had a very successful Professional career, Doug Turner and most recently Adam Norman winning the Gold Medal in 2003 when the Championship was last held at Moseley.

More recently, Liz Haycock was the Warwickshire Ladies County Champion in 2010.

Currently Richard Sadler is the Midlands Closed Amateur Champion & the Worcestershire Match Play Champion, having won this honour 3 years in succession.
